olive oil paleo salad dressing

Upgraded Paleo Salad Dressing Recipe

Salads are a terrific, healthy way to consume nutrients and fiber without weighing the body down with a heavy digestive load. Salads are terrific, but salad dressing is typically not terrific.

Don’t believe me? Check out the ingredient list on the salad dressing in your fridge right now. What is the primary fat? I bet it’s not just olive oil… You’ve got to be really careful about this. Fats are really, really important to get right because the wrong fat can really mess your brain up. Me? I’m a fanatic about fats – A FANATIC –  and I refuse to consume canola oil, soybean oil, safflower oil and other unsaturated industry oils if I can help it.

It’s next to impossible to find a store-bought brand that uses 100% olive oil in their salad dressing blend (Don’t believe me? Go check.) so I just resort to making it myself. It’s quite simple, really, and a lot of fun. Here is a delicious paleo salad dressing recipe that anybody can enjoy:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • Generous dollop of wildflower honey
  • Generous dollop of mustard
  • Salt and cracked pepper to taste

Process:

Toss the whole mess into a mason jar and SHAKE! You’re done! It’s easy to make. It’s delicious. It’s good for you. I put this mess on everything.

You can riff on this recipe yourself and add whatever herbs you like. Want to add anchovies for a Cesar salad? Go for it! Maple syrup instead of honey? Oh yeah! I generally add a bit of cayenne pepper and whatever fresh herbs I have on hand at the time like rosemary, sage, oregano, basil, chives, etc. I can thank my mom for my salad dressing skills because we always made our own at home! Hope you enjoy your paleo salad dressing!
